France’s own Jean-Luc Ponty has been at the forefront of jazz violin for decades.  He has singlehandedly brought the electric violin and the European tradition of great jazz-violin playing to the U.S.

Jean-Luc Ponty met Danish violinist Mads Tolling at Berklee College of Music and recommended Mads to Stanley Clarke, where he has been a five-year member in the Stanley Clarke Band.

Tolling and Ponty remain in contact with a mutual goal: The Evolution Of The Violin In Modern Music.

On Wednesday, January 5, 2010, Mads Tolling to debut at the RRazz room at Hotel Nikko San Francisco and present a musical journey in jazz, jazz fusion and progressive rock. This tribute to Jean-Luc Ponty will include fresh takes on Ponty’s recordings  from Enigmatic Ocean to Imaginary Voyage.
